About the sequence
We get so used to subtle habitual tensions that it can be quite tricky to notice they're actually there. It can helpful to deliberately increase tension. So you can connect with it more clearly as a felt sense - holding, gripping, squeezing, clenching... And then explore letting go of it from that place of awareness.
A breath visualisation can really help - imagine that you can breathe in through your own nerves and blood vessels right into a place of tension in the body. And then imagining flushing away tension from that place, on an exhale, with your gentle breath.
It doesn't matter if your tension won't release. Just say to yourself 'Tension.Tension. Tension. It's only a little bit of tension'. The let it be, and move on with your body scan.
